Induced immunologic response to tumors.

چکیده
A tumoricidal system has been described utilizing a two-step process which, first, specifically alters the antigenic nature of a tumor cell and, second, adds a heterologous cytotoxic anti body without affecting normal cells. The antigenic structure of the tumor cell is altered by the nitrogen mustard, L-phenylalanine mustard, and a specific antibody is made to this mustard by injecting it into the rabbit as a hapten conjugated to human gamma-globulin. Selectivity in the system concen trating the hapten and later the specific antibody on the tumor cell is obtained by utilizing the loss of selective permeability in the tumor vessels. L-phenylalanine mustard is introduced intravenously as a primary injection followed in a half-hour by an intravenous injection of the antibody. The system has been demonstrated to be tumoricidal but, as yet, has low efficiency and high toxicity.

Immunologic Basis and Immunoprophy-laxis of RhD Induced Hemolytic Disease of the Newborn (HDN)
RhD antigen is the most immunogenic and clinically significant antigen of red blood cells after ABO system. It has historically been associated with hemolytic disease of the newborn (HDN) which is now routinely prevented by the administration of polyclonal anti-D immunoglobulin. This management of HDN has proven to be one of the most successful cases of prophylactic treatment based on antibody ...

متن کاملγ-H2AX as a protein biomarker for radiation exposure response in ductal carcinoma breast tumors: Experimental evidence and literature review
Background: H2AX is a histone variant that is systematically found and ubiquitously distributed throughout the genome. DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs) induce phosphorylation of H2AX at serine 139 (γH2AX), an immunocytochemical assay with antibodies recognizing γH2AX has become the gold standard for the detection of DSBs. The importance of this assay to investigate different individu...
متن کاملImmune surveillance against a solid tumor fails because of immunological ignorance.
Many peripheral solid tumors such as sarcomas and carcinomas express tumor-specific antigens that can serve as targets for immune effector T cells. Nevertheless, overall immune surveillance against such tumors seems relatively inefficient. We studied immune surveillance against a s.c. sarcoma expressing a characterized viral tumor antigen. Surprisingly, the tumor cells were capable of inducing ...
متن کاملTumor immunology.
Malignant tumors express antigens that may stimulate and serve as targets for antitumor immunity. Virally induced tumors usually contain integrated proviral genomes in theircellulargenomes and often express viral genome-encoded proteins that may stimulate specific host immune responses. Antigens unique to individual tumors that stimulate specific rejection of transplanted tumors have been demon...
متن کاملTumor-Debulking Surgery Promotes Protective Antitumor Memory when Combined with Chemotherapy and Adjuvant Immunotherapy
Resection alone is rarely curative for advanced tumors, but the outcome generally improves with adjuvant therapy. We have previously shown that a combination of traditional chemotherapy (gemcitabine) and immunotherapy (anti-CD40/FGK-45) without surgery is synergistic and can lead to long-term cure when applied to small tumors. Such cured animals have immunologic memory and are protected from re...
